Thanks very much for getting in touch with me and for letting me know what's on your mind regarding agricultural and farm issues.
It is estimated that agriculture in Tennessee generates $44.2 billion per year and provides more than 300,000 jobs. Agriculture accounts for 11.4 percent of our state's economy, and I will work to see that the needs of farmers in Tennessee and nationwide are met. I'm continuing to work to reduce costs – such as high fuel prices – that limit production.
I voted in support of the Farm, Nutrition, and Bioenergy Act of 2007, the Farm Bill, which became law in June 2008 and is set to expire in December 2012. Supporting farmers in Tennessee is critical to the stability, health and culture of our state. As Congress begins putting together a new Farm Bill, I appreciate your information and requests regarding specific programs.
I'm grateful you took the time to let me know where you stand, and I'll be sure to keep your comments in mind as agricultural issues are discussed and debated in Washington and in Tennessee.
