Vote Hemp
is run by a seven-member volunteer Board of Directors,
with the help of a Board of Advisors and many volunteer

David Frankel (Hawaii/California)
Business and public interest lawyer,
healer and activist — helping people, projects
and companies that promote environmental sustainability,
social justice and heightened consciousness. Hemp advocacy
work and service including teamwork on the 9th Circuit
hemp foods case, HIA v DEA, and the Lakota hemp case,
U.S. v White Plume et al. Also a board member of the
Hemp Industries Association (HIA).
Public interest demonstration projects
including biofuel and veggie oil cars, off-the-grid
sustainable living (domes, solar, water systems), urban
sustainable living (urban earthship), and light footprint
living which means making conscious personal choices
to reduce the ecological footprint. Other work in: sustainable
forestry, non-wood pulp and paper, carbon sequestration/emission
reductions, global warming issues, social justice, independent
film and multimedia production.

Candi Penn (California)
Born in Long Beach, CA on June 3, 1948.
Robt. A. Millikan High School graduate with honors.
Young careerist at Buffum's department store doing wholesale/retail
merchandising. Aspirations: world peace.
Attended Sophie Newcomb College/Tulane
University in New Orleans, LA. Studied languages, philosophy,
theatre arts and tennis. Traveled to all 50 American
states.
Married William Penn, Jr. in San Francisco,
CA in 1972. Moved to Occidental, CA in 1977. Children
include Veronica and Ben (twins), Ian, Shyla and Olivia.
After home-schooling and creating a community school,
helped introduce alternative education within the public
school system and served as director of the program.
Coordinated a local food buying cooperative.
Learned about hemp's environmental
and economic benefits, and designed a
line of clothing in 1993, Cannabis Clothes. Attended
the HIA trade group founders meeting in 1994. Established
the HIA office in CA in 1997, and became HIA Executive
Director in 2000. Helped found Vote Hemp, the hemp lobbying
group, serving as a director to date.
