The event is being organized by Associate Producer and NY HIA state chapter President Susie Cody; and Creative Director and Producer, and HIA member Mia Feroleto.

Sales of popular hemp items like non-dairy milk, shelled seed, soaps and lotions have continued to skyrocket against the backdrop of the new hemp research provision in the Farm Bill, and increasing grassroots pressure to allow hemp to be grown domestically on a commercial scale once again for U.S. processors and manufacturers. Prized for its diverse industrial applications, hemp is grown worldwide for use in textiles, paper and packaging products, bio-fuels, building materials, food, cosmetics, automobile components, plastics and many other products.

Despite its versatility and sustainability benefits, industrial hemp cultivation is prohibited at the federal level. To date, twenty-seven states have defined industrial hemp as distinct and removed barriers to its production. These states are able to take immediate advantage of the industrial hemp research and pilot program provision, Section 7606 of the Farm Bill: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia.
