Dear Constituent,

Thank you for contacting me regarding your support for H.R. 1866, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2009. I really appreciate your taking the time to let me know your views on this important issue.

As you may know, Representative Ron Paul introduced H.R. 1866 on April 2nd, 2009. This bill would amend the Controlled Substances Act to exclude the words industrial hemp from the definition of marijuana. This bill would grant any state that regulates the growing and processing of industrial hemp exclusive oversight in any criminal, civil action and administrative proceeding. If this bill is passed, states will make the ultimate decision in determining whether or not such plants meet the criteria for being considered marijuana or industrial hemp. Recently, H.R. 1866 was referred to the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security and it is currently pending before this committee.

I will continue to follow this piece of legislation carefully and should I have the opportunity to vote on this bill, I will certainly keep your thoughts in mind.

In the meantime, if you wish to offer any additional information to me regarding this issue, please feel free to contact me by calling, emailing, writing, or faxing me. However, please be advised that any written mail sent to my Washington office is subject to an additional two-week delay due to the increased mail security.
