Dear Constituent,
Thank you for contacting me. I appreciate hearing from you.
As you know, Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX-14) introduced the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2011 (H.R. 1831) on May 11, 2011. At this time, no similar legislation has been introduced in the Senate. H.R. 1831 amends the Controlled Substances Act to exclude industrial hemp from the definition of marijuana. H.R. 1831 would also require the federal government to respect state laws allowing the growing of industrial hemp. The Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2011 has been referred to the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security where it awaits further consideration. Please know that I will keep your thoughts in mind should I have the opportunity to consider similar legislation before the full Senate.
Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. My best wishes to you.
Sincerely,
HARRY REID
United States Senator
Nevada
